Grand Extravaganza Agenda and Links

Approximate Time Activity
12:45 p.m.
Buses Depart Guest House and Marriott University Park Hotel. Bring cameras, and sunscreen, sun glasses, hat, a water bottle if you have one and a warm jacket (we are at 7,000 feet).
Drive to Park City with specialty lunch on the bus from the Piñon Cafe. Just before arriving in Park City we will detour to

1:30 p.m.

Utah Olympic Park:  Guides will take our buses to the top of the world's highest altitude ski jumps and the fastest bobsled, luge and skeleton track where Olympic history was made. We will then visit the museum and continue to our base in the middle of Park City.

3:00 p.m.

Miner's Hospital Historic Building on Park Avenue:  Our base for the rest of the day.  This building is located in a city park part of which we have reserved.  We can use the facilities, select from the refreshments we will have chilled for you, deposit your gear you dont need during the day and relax in the shade of the park OR participate in a variety of optional activites listed below: You will be provided with maps including the free Park City Transit System. The park and hospital site have been kindly provided by Medantic Technology, the Distance Learning Division of MD Informatics, LLC.

Walk the Historic District with Main Street galleries, shops, Wasatch brew pub. Free trolley bus goes up and down Main Street.
Rent a mountain or road bike for half a day $ 25 with helmet.  Must advise planners 2 days in advance to reserve at Jan's rental shop (435-649-4949).  Bikes can be taken up chair lift ($11) and ridden down, or ride the road to Deer Valley or the Rail Trail directly behind the Miner's Hospital.
  Visit the Kimball Art Center (free)

6:00 p.m.

Happy Hour: Drift back to base at any time during the afternoon and if you are feeling hungry you will find some guacamole, salsa and quesadillas and of course more refreshment.  Start salivating as the grills start smoking.

7:00 p.m.

BBQ Feast:  Our caterer will provide a wonderful selection of southwest dishes including roast corn and black bean salad or jicama and cucumer salad, jerk chicken or beef fajitas you can build yourself, meatless chili and spanish rice, then finally apple crisp ala mode to finish the meal.  Naturally we will have water, soda, fruit juice, beer and wine available. Weather permitting we will dine outside, so remember your jacket.  Alternate plan, retreat to the Miner's Hospital.
8:30 p.m. Will Bagley, local historian and author will present the "Heroic History of Park City" (Miners, Ranchers and Mormons) which, after our tour, should help us appreciate the town and its colorful past.

Buses Depart for Salt Lake City dropping at Guest House, Campus Housing and Marriott University Park Hotel
10:45 p.m.
Arrive in Salt Lake, so avoid early morning flights!
