THE VIRTUAL CHICKEN OF 1992:

In 1992 during the Slice of Life Annual Workshop in Salt Lake City, the power of the Rubber Chicken was first invoked. Its mystical aura would cast out the demons and gremlins of mayhem and mischief whose sole purpose was to corrupt computers and their multimedia programs.

At that time, the "shaking of the chicken" over a PC or laserdisc player was done in a symbolic, virtual manner by a slight waving of a closed fist.

THE CORPOREAL CHICKEN OF 1993:

Not until the 1993 Workshop at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville did our mascot and good luck charm reveal itself in corporeal form. Few knew that the world center for distributing Rubber Chickens was in Salt Lake City. From Loftus International the Slice of Life Team obtained a clutch of chickens and traveled with them as carry-on baggage to Virginia (much to the consternation of security officers). We evoked The Power of the Rubber Chicken by draping them atop troublesome computers and shaking them in and around multimedia gear. Attendees were even treated to portable Rubber Chicken key chains as personal assistants. Needless to say, all activities ran smoothly and trouble-free.

TODAY'S RUBBER CHICKEN:

Today, whenever any Slice of Life multimedia gear is shipped, a Rubber Chicken is stuffed inside the container to ensure a timely and safe trip. The chickens have flown with us to the Slice of Life Workshop at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Vancouver, Canada; the University of Copenhagen in Denmark; the University of Chicago; the University of South Florida in Tampa; Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia; the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany; the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Whether in-your-face or discreetly tucked away, the Utah Rubber Chicken is always close at hand during any Slice of Life activities.
