With the timing of a precision Swiss watch, the host team in Lausanne has mounted the website for the July 4-8, 2006 experience exactly on their December 15, deadline. This reveals much about the organization you can expect from the Pedagogical Unit at the University of Lausanne. Those who have attend other meetings know that the Slice of Life conference is a grass roots happening each year (this is the 18th) where we expose ourselves to new ideas in new settings and find satisfaction in sharing what we have developed or discovered with others who are new to the task of integrating or evaluating new technologies in health science education. Go to http://slice.utah.edu/
We are very pleased to announce a formal partnership between Slice of Life and HEAL (Health Education Asset Library). This partnership brings together the advanced development activities of Slice of Life with worldwide free access to high quality health sciences educational resources provided through HEAL (www.healcentral.org). Much of the material at HEAL has been contributed by "Slicers".
The program will only be as exciting as the abstracts you submit (think Jan 15 for a real February 1 deadline, because we all procrastinate). Think about what you will submit in the coming year. We have some wonderful, secure Lausanne software, which handles both registration and abstract submission, and even allows you to return and edit your abstract if in haste you omit an author or misspell a word.
Don't wait any longer to check out the site. Spread the news. Download and print or e-mail the flyer provided on the site and share or e-mail it to colleagues or organizational or institutional listservers. All of you are an informal publicity committee. Think of whom you know would find this meeting valuable.
Mark your calendars right now, check your frequent flyer miles and see if the early bird can get a free flight. You with itty-bitty dollars might want to find a roommate with whom to commiserate.
I had the pleasure of visiting the Lausanne facilities in November and know that you will like the setting that includes a city on a hill that stretches down to the Lake. Choose to stay in the old city where you can walk to the university or at the lake. We will have an additional option of reasonable hostel and guesthouse lodgings, which share nothing in common with my youth hostel days in 1960. These are ideal for families or those on low budget. The guesthouse is walking distance from the train station.
The Lausanne team joins me in inviting you to visit the website, http://slice.utah.edu/ as soon as you read this. Even the Grand Extravaganza is described with photos. A few things are missing, like the final list of hotels and pictures of the wonderful facilities, but all the critical information is there. Think SUBMIT!!
